I ranked skill packs by new GitHub stars over 7 and 30 days and by skills.sh skill installs in the last 24 hours (every skill in a pack added up), cross-checked GitHub Trending, then read each repo's SKILL.md files, manifests and hooks. Packs whose main tools auto-run hooks that change files, send telemetry by default, download binaries or ask for account cookies were left off this page.
All numbers checked Thu 15 Oct 2026 and they move daily. Stars: GitHub API, about 18:45 UTC. New stars: OSS Insight star events, 8 to 15 Oct. 24-hour installs: skills.sh Trending (24h), about 18:20 UTC, adding up every skill from the pack in its top 600. Marketplace installs: claude.com plugin marketplace, all time. Hover a number for the exact count.
Before you install any skill
Install counts can be inflated, so treat them as a signal, not proof. A known publisher, steady stars and source you have read count for more.
Check the publisher
Popular names get copied. Match the owner/repo on the card before you install, and skip look-alikes with the same name.
Read SKILL.md
A skill is instructions your agent will follow. Open SKILL.md and any scripts on GitHub first. If it asks for keys, cookies or a curl-to-shell installer, stop.
Know what runs on its own
Plugins can add hooks that fire without you asking. Review installed plugins with /plugin in Claude Code and remove what you do not use.
